Oslo

Found a great place to snowboard, Oslo! From cambridge it costs the same and is as convenient to go as Scotland.
There are cheap Ryanair flights all yera round and in convenient times. It is possible to get the early Ryanair flight, leaving Cambridge at 3:45, catching the 6:30am flight to Torp from Stanstead, that will arrive in oslo at 9:30am and there is a bus shuttle service from the airport to Oslo that gets there at 11:15am. From the bus station you can get the line #1 to Voksenkollen where on the other side of the line there is a small hut where they operate a ski hire and a bus shuttle service to the top of the slope on the Tryvann Winter Park. Similarly the to get the last flight back at 22:10 the bus leaves Oslo at 18:50.
There are reasonable proced hostels in Oslo and they include a good continental buffet breakfast. Bear in mind that food is expensive in Norway and they consider breakfast their main meal.
I do would advice against going out in Oslo mainly due to alcohol prices, around twice as much as in the UK.
Ah you can also hire a sledge from Forgneseteren metro station (line #1) and sledge down a few stations. There is also a lot of cross country skiing there but I can't comment much as I have not practiced it yet.
There are a lot of museums to see in Oslo, I recommend the Viking Ship Museum.
Some photos of oslo are available in my gallery.
